Michaelmas began the Sunday of St. Michael and All Angels (Sept. 25th). During this mini-season within the Trinity Season, we reflect on the spiritual battle that we face against the powers of our three evil enemies: the devil, the sinful pressures from the world, and our own sinful nature. If we were to fight this battle alone, we are lost. But God has had mercy upon us. He has created His holy angels to fight for us against the devil and his demons as well as those in this world who would seek to hurt us. But the angels can only do so much. They cannot save us from our sins. For this, God sent His Son into the world to face all our enemies on our behalf.

Throughout His life, He took them head on and beat them upholding His perfect record. In His death, He sealed His complete victory for us and descended into hell to announce that victory. In His resurrection, we know that the battle is ours through Christ alone. But we still have to fight until God calls us home. It may get tiring, but we fight as those who are certain of their victory, awaiting the peace and rest promised us in Jesus Christ.
